School House Teams

At Butleigh Primary School pupil voice is very important. We encourage pupils to be independent, positive and proactive in all that they do. Many children are actively involved with positive change at our school. They share their ideas for improving playtimes, raising money and supporting local and national charities. School House meetings are then a great opportunity for the whole school to listen, share and discuss proposals from other children and then vote on these new ideas and initiatives.

When any child starts the school, they have placed into one of our four houses, Maple, Ash, Apple and Blossom. Each house has children from Reception to Year Six who work together throughout the school year to earn house points for modelling our school vision and values and showing their Butleigh Brilliance. Each house votes for their Year 6 house captains each year.

Children in Year Six are taught how to lead these meetings and to gather children’s ideas before presenting them to the Head Teacher. The children work together on projects of all shapes and sizes and can see first hand how they can make a difference. This “ownership”  means our children are passionate and proud about what they do.

At the end of each term the house with the most points receive a House Treat for their hard work. Opportunities to work together as a house group are created throughout the school year and include: arts activities, themed days, sports days and events.

The children at Butleigh are extremely proud of their house team and older children in the school take particular care of those younger children in their house during play times and other whole school events.
