If you want to know our policy on something that is not listed, please ask the school office.

Equality Objectives statement

Our school aims to meet its obligations under the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) by having due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it

Our approach to equality is based on our shared vision:

Butleigh pupils are immersed in rich learning experiences, which equip them with the knowledge and skills required to accompany them on their lifelong journey. These experiences motivate pupils and enable them to influence the world around them and develop a sense of self in an ever-changing diverse world.

All students are empowered to fulfil their potential, housed in a culture of excellence and high ambition. All are challenged to be the best they can be, within an inclusive and supportive community.

Our Christian values of Respect, Kindness, Honesty, Cooperation, Courage and Forgiveness are at the heart of our community; our interactions with each other and our environment. We provide our pupils with the opportunity to develop the skills to take ownership of their behaviours and to learn from both theirs and others’ interactions, developing a sense of justice and self control.

Objective 1:To ensure our curriculum enables our children to learn about equality and discrimination and for all children to have the opportunity to discuss this and ask any questions they may have.

Objective 2: To ensure that by our curriculum and our resources including our reading materials contain books about people from different
backgrounds including (culture, race, gender, disability and family structures).

Objective 3: To ensure that we create a supportive and inclusive environment based on a greater understanding of all the needs of children in our classroom, particularly those with SEND and EAL
